ROBT. E. LEE III
Steaming Upriver at Sunset, 1870
My painting of the Robt. E. Lee is a reflection of the greatest steamboat of all time. It won the Great Race in 1870 from New Orleans to Saint Louis at the pinnacle point of river transportation. It set a record that has yet to be matched by any river boat of the same character. Painting it churning its way up the river into the sunset is a bit of a tribute to the graceful decline of the steamboat era and to a majestic boat for which I will always have a little soft spot. |
